mr.macspot. Particulate filters on petrol cars are starting to become the norm, new cars from Volkswagen, Skoda, BMW and others are fitting them. Apparently fuel injection petrol engines are also guilty of particulate emissions, it's just not a vote winner for the government to make a fuss like they have with diesel.

Our Ceed CRDi did a regen every 250 miles for the 5 years we owned the car. At 60 mph on the motorway (about 1900 rpm) it would take about 15 miles/15 minutes to complete. Speed up to 70 mph and 2220 rpm and the regen would take slightly longer (both distance and time).

As far as I can tell when regenerating the dpf there is a smell like burning rubber from the rear driver's side of the car and the engine/exhaust note sounds deeper, also fuel economy drops by about 3-5 mpg temporarily. Two nuts to remove the entire filter assembly. Lift the fuel lines out of their retainer on the side of the assembly. Remove two screws, one on each side of the assembly, to slide the outer casing down and off. Remove the connector threaded into the bottom of the filter. Remove the filter from the top block.
